This article summarizes the experience in the maintenance and repair of water pumps. It’s of practical significance to discuss the reasons for the heating of stainless steel multistage pump motors with you.

Keywords: stainless steel multistage pump motor, heating

Stainless steel multistage pump motor heat failure should be investigated from the motor itself and the supporting stainless steel multistage pump.

1. The motor itself is overheated: Serious overheating of the motor can easily cause the aging, burnout of the stator and rotor coils of the motor, or even the broken rotor bars. If the motor is overheated, it should be shut down for inspection immediately. First, if the motor is equipped with a coil, rotor, and bearing temperature detection device, it has a good protection for the motor over-temperature; secondly, whether the voltage of the motor is stable and the motor transmission is smooth (focus on checking whether the motor bearings are seriously worn, oil or grease Excessive) to analyze whether the transmission is not smooth due to pump failure. In addition, the motor cooling system needs to be checked. Inverter motors should be especially investigated because they are independent cooling systems.

2. Check the supporting stainless steel multistage pump: If the pump fails, serious mechanical friction will inevitably cause poor transmission, and the motor will heat due to overload. From the following aspects:
(1) The stainless steel multistage pump shaft is bent or the radial run-out of each part of the rotor is too large. During the rotation of the rotor and the casing in contact with the pump shaft, the pump shaft or its sleeve and the guide vane sleeve are rubbed, and the impeller and the seal ring are rubbed, which causes excessive operating load.
(2) Ordinary stainless steel multistage centrifugal pump balance plate tilt is too large, this is mainly because the balance plate axial run-out is too large, when the pump is running, the balance plate part often rubs with the balance plate, thus increasing the power of the motor.
(3) The impeller spacing of the stainless steel multistage pump is uneven. The quality of the water pump assembly is not good. The impeller spacing of each stage is uneven. As a result, the individual impeller rubs against the middle section or the sealing ring, which increases the motor load.
(4) The packing gland is pressed too tightly. When filling the packing, if the packing gland is pressed too tight, the friction between the packing and the pump bushing will increase, increasing the motor load.
(5) The balance chamber and the suction section of the ordinary stainless steel multistage centrifugal pump are connected with a balance pipe. If the balance water pipe is blocked, the balance plate cannot be opened, the axial thrust cannot be balanced, the balance plate and the balance ring are directly rubbed, and the motor load is heavy Can't even start.
(6) The wear of the balance disk and the balance plate of the ordinary stainless steel multistage centrifugal pump is too large. When the balance disk and the balance plate are too worn, the pump moves on the axial suction side. It also quickly damages the impeller and reduces the efficiency of the water pump (because the impeller and guide vane are not centered). In serious cases, the water pump cannot start.
(7) The gap of the coupling is too small, resulting in poor transmission. When the balance disk and balance plate are seriously worn, the water pump moves axially on the water suction side. As a result, the water pump coupling and the motor coupling collide and increase the motor load.
(8) The bearing of stainless steel multistage centrifugal pump is stuck due to lack of oil or other reasons, resulting in a heavy load on the motor.
(9) It’s especially worth noting that the stainless steel multistage centrifugal pump must not be short of water because of its soft material. Otherwise, the lack of water may cause the rotor and the casing to lock up in just 30 seconds, the motor cannot rotate, and the motor cannot rotate and burns out due to hot work in a moment.
